My life as an artist is essential to my identity and well being. About ten years ago I became consumed fully with painting and
stone carving. This complemented a range of activities I was engaging in at the time, such as meditation, journal writing, being
in solitude, and spending time in nature. All of these pursuits led to a profound spiritual transformation. My artistic practice
remains an important source of nourishment for my life and ongoing spiritual quest.
My artistic efforts continue to be devoted to both painting and sculpture. Each serves to inform and inspire the other.
In my work I seek to depict inner and outer realms, the metaphysical, the transcendent, and a sense of timelessness and mystery.
In both the painting and the sculpture I use repetition of stylized depictions of the face and the human form. At times these
are easily recognized, and at others they are abstracted almost past the point of recognition. I combine these with animal imagery,
and familiar symbols such as hearts, stars, suns and moons. These pictorial elements comprise my primary visual vocabulary which
I use in dynamic, swirling, and fluid overall compositions. In the paintings I use brilliant color on dark grounds, resulting
in a radiant feel not unlike stained glass. In the sculpture I carve with sensitivity to the stone’s inherent beauty, texture,
and natural color.
Through my many years of living and working as an artist I have developed great belief in the power of art to depict and reflect
inner states. Through my work I aim to reinforce for the viewer the validity of his or her own spiritual journey. My artistic
practice feeds my spiritual progress and I hope it helps contribute to that of others.
