Diamond-Newman Fine Arts is pleased to announce “Imaginary Landscapes,” a special exhibition featuring works from Mauricio Puente, Alexander Yelagin, and Todd Bonita. From our Boston gallery in the South End, we showcase some of the finest examples of local and international contemporary art. We are proud to be a part of “First Fridays” in the South End, a monthly open gallery and studio event held on the first Friday of every month. This month’s reception will be held on Friday, June 6th from 5-9 PM.
This First Friday, Diamond-Newman Fine Arts presents a show that highlights the works of three artists with a fondness for fantasy. The works featured for this exhibition are imaginary landscapes with an escapist quality; the kind that stimulate the senses and lull the viewer into idealized versions of reality. Mauricio Puente’s works conjure up the mystical nature of El Salvador with village scenes drenched in brilliant hues, and stunning dimension added by the palette knife. Todd Alexander Yelagin invents the perfect daydream getaway by combining memories of his youth in Siberia with flowing grassy plains and weathered structures. Bonita works from his memory as a lifelong seacoast artist and indulges the viewer with dramatic light, casting long shadows over docks and fishing boat scenes. The works for this show weave together in theme, depicting the same world of contemplation and serenity enhanced by the imaginary.
